Descriptionheadpiece or bell of a bronze war trumpet in the shape of a boar's head, crest and ears missing. The head would originally have been mounted on a hollow wooden shaft with a curve at the apex. The tongue vibrated when the trumpet was blown, sending out an ullulating noise. Found in 1816 at Leichestown Farm, Deskford, while digging for peat, the Carnyx is at present on loan to the National Museum of Scotland from Aberdeenshire Museums Service. Iron Age.
