Titlemortsafe tackle
DescriptionThe mortsafe tackle was used for lowering a mortsafe (a large stone) onto a grave at the time of burial to prevent removal of the body by body-snatchers. The tackle consists of an iron ring, from which depend three jointed rods made of rounded iron. Two of these rods are of equal length, while the third is longer. The lower part of each rod is flattened and has the end turned up into a hook to which the mortsafe could be attached.
