Descriptionhandwritten letter from Donald Currie & Co., 3 & 4 Fenchurch Street, London, to Miss Barbara Reid, 1, Poole Lane, Peterhead, regarding the death of Miss Reid's brother Alexander of typhoid in Calcutta, on September 16th, 1878. Alexander had been ill for 12 days and was cared for at the General Hospital, Calcutta. He became ill during his service on board the 'ROSLIN CASTLE,' and the crew of this ship and the sister ships 'ARUNDEL CASTLE' and 'TANTALLON CASTLE' had raised the sum of £28 18s to aid his children, now orphaned. Dated London, October 21st, 1878
