DescriptionCane creel with woven cotton carrying band.Cane back creel used to carry fish by fishwives. Woven up the sides with slots for the cotton carrying strap, the style is exemplary of back creels used on the East Coast of Scotland. The creel would have been carried with the strap across the fishwife's shoulders or forehead. Fishwives made an independent living selling fish door-to-door.
