CreatorLebel (manufacturer)
DescriptionTrench dagger made from a French Lebel bayonet. The dagger is made from the first or upper part of the blade, and still retains its original hilt of white brass, although the cross guard is custom-made. The hammered tip is curved slightly. The Lebel bayonet was regarded as too long for trench warfare, so was often cut down into a dagger by French troops. The cruciform shape of the blade was designed to perforate heavy greatcoats and left a wound that was difficult and slow to heal, hence its nickname of 'La Rosalie' ('The Rose'). World War I (Pre-1916).
