DescriptionLetter, Lord Lewis Gordon, Portsmouth to an unknown recipient. Written during his tenure in the Royal Navy, Gordon tells the recipent that he now ashore, and that he had a 'very pleasant cruize [sic] off Cape Finister and ye coast of Gallicia', recalling the taking of a privateer of 16 guns and 145 men, and two English merchantmen. Dated Portsmouth, June 21st, 1740.
Gordon was a noted Jacobite and a member of Prince Charles Edward Stewart's council. He also raised Aberdeenshire battalions which fought at Falkirk and Culloden.
