DescriptionA Winchester bushel dry capacity measure issued to the Burgh of Banff in 1707. It has three feet and two handles and has an attached plaque carrying the arms and name of Linlithgow. A bushel contained 8 gallons and each gallon was the volume occupied by 8 pounds of wheat. Following the Act of Union in 1707 there was an attempt to rationalise Scotland's system of weights and measures and all burghs were ordered to follow the English system.
