DescriptionWooden presentation box with ivory key surround, key included. Carved into the lid is the emblem of Turriff, the mercat cross, with the words 'SERVA JUGUM BURGH OF TURRIFF'. The front of the box carries a silver plate inscribed 'Presented by the TOWN COUNCIL of TURRIFF TO BARON BOOTHBY OF BUCHAN AND RATTRAY HEAD K.B.E. FIRST HONORARY BURGESS OF THE BURGH OF TURRIFF 9TH DECEMBER 1958'.
'Serva Jugum' (Keep the Yoke) is the motto of the Hay family of Delgaty Castle and an important family in the area since the 11th century.
