DescriptionThe medal consists of a five-pointed star in the center with a round stamped with the front image of the sphinx and the pyramids background. All within a ring bearing the word "EGYPT 1882" and under the corresponding Arabic. The back has the monogram of Tawfiq Pasha crowned and surrounded by his Western titration. The bottom of the blue ribbon consists of a crescent and a star.
After the outbreak of the Anglo-Egyptian War in 1882,Britain met with opposition from Isma'il Pasha who was an Egyptian supporter of independence from the British protectorate. The end of the war brought to power the son of Isma'il, Tawfiq Pasha, a supporter of the British government, who decided to reward all British and Indian soldiers who took part in the fighting and had received the Egypt Medal with this additional award.
