DescriptionSilver snuff box with shell inlay, believed to be by Andrew Pirie of Banff. On the base is a crest: a rose, on an escrol above the motto ARMAT SPINA ROSAS (The spine protects the rose). The shell, much worn, is that of the Vice Admiral Cone, a species of sea snail whch inhabits the Red Sea, the Gulf of Aden and in the Indian Ocean off Somalia.
