Titlelongbow
Creator Peter Muir (Bowyer)
DescriptionA yew 'D'-form bow with horn nocks,, shaped to follow the grain of the wood. The limbs are left thicker at the knots which are potential weaknesses in the wood. The lighter sapwood from the outside of the tree is incorporated at the back of the bow to give resistance under tension, the darker-coloured heartwood forming the belly of the bow to resist compression. Note the 5 bindings on the lower limb to give additional support to a spliced replacement limb. Bowstring possibly made of hemp. 47lb pull weight at full draw, made by Peter Muir (1809-1886) of Edinburgh.
