Titlechina eggs (5)
Descriptionchina eggs (5) used for putting under a broody hen. As the hen laid her clutch of eggs, each egg was removed temporarily and replaced by a china egg so the hen wasn't put off laying, and the laid egg placed to one side which would delay its development. When her full clutch had been laid, all of her eggs were replaced in the nest and incubated for the same length of time. The heat of the broody hen would begin the development of all of the eggs at the same time, ensuring that all of the chicks would hatch simultaneously. 20th century
