TitleChassepot yataghan bayonet
DescriptionBlade : yataghan (double bent). Flat spine, long fuller on each side, ending square crossguardward and oval tipward, square profile. False edge at the tip. Crossguard : steel slightly rounded. Front ends as a curved quillon and ended by a round finial. Back is made as a muzzle ring with two high washers closed by a screw whose head is not slotted but has two holes for a prong screwdriver. Under the washers is a little slot for the left stud on the barrel. Handle : cast brass, with 15 rounded cordons all around but the flat of the back. Pommel is rounded. On the back of the handle is a long slot for the barrel bar, ending inside of the muzzle ring. On the back of the pommel is the stud slot with a rounded chamfering. Blade is riveted through the 3rd cordon and by a rounded rivet rear of the pommel. Locking by a button on the left side of the pommel, long leaf spring on the right side with foot acting as a washer for the second river between 10th and 11th cordon. This rivet holds only the spring.
Scabbard : Steel, same shape as the blade. Ended by an olive filial. Square bridge for the frog strap. Inner mouth piece with springs to hold the blade. Moth piece is riveted on each side of the scabbard, a small part of this mouth piece is protruding on the spine. Scabbard is steel polished, not blued. Late 19th century.
